There’s Power in a Song!

Are you a songwriter?

At Second Verses, we rely heavily on our talented volunteer songwriters. Our songwriters work directly with patients who have been diagnosed with cancer or a terminal/long term illness to bring the hope and healing power of music into their life.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Submit your songwriter volunteer form.

  2. We listen to some of your catalogue to see if you are a good match for pairing with a patient.

  3. Once you are matched, we set up an introductory Zoom meeting with songwriter, patient, and someome from Second Verses. During the intro session, it’s a time to get to know everyone and to hear the patient’s story and what they would like their song to be about.

Contact information will be shared with everyone and the songwriter and patient will schedule the writing session(s) via Zoom. These times will need to be extremely flexible due to the nature of treatment and the way patient’s feel during/following treatments.

  4. When you and the patient feel the song is complete, you will send a worktape of the song to Second Verses, along with chord charts and lyric sheets. We will review to determine scheduling for the final step: Song Presentation.

  5. The Song Presentation is an online celebration where the songwriter presents the song officially to the patient, their family, and anyone else the patient would like to invite to the online performance.

  6. Select songs we will produce for release across all streaming platforms.

Additional Details:

  1. This is a volunteer program and songs are written on a volunteer basis for the benefit of the patient; however, some songs will be selected for further production through Second Verses.

  2. Songwriter retains writer credit (along with the patient) and Second Verses holds publishing rights for all songs created as part of our HopeSong program. We reserve the right to pitch the songs to artists/artist representatives/labels for recording consideration.

  3. Regardless of outcome, you retain your full writer credit. If you are not a member of a PRO, you can join ASCAP for free. If you prefer BMI, you can get details here: BMI

  4. Any writer royalties generated will be dispersed through your PRO directly to you.

  5. Additional questions about publishing and production, as well as any other questions about the program can be submitted here.
